What insurance does Amazon require sellers to purchase?

Amazon requires all third-party sellers to obtain product liability insurance after reaching $10,000 in sales in one month via Amazon’s US marketplace. Not only is this insurance a standard requirement, but it is also an important safety net for every Amazon seller, regardless of monthly sales.

Product liability insurance protects your business by helping to cover the cost of claims and legal fees if a customer states a product you sold on Amazon’s website is defective and caused bodily harm or property damage to someone else’s belongings. Knowing that you are adequately insured and that your small business is well-poised to handle unexpected legal fees and expenses is essential.

Why choose coverage through the Amazon Insurance Accelerator program?

To help sellers more quickly and affordably secure product liability insurance, Marsh and Amazon curated a panel of leading insurers of small commercial businesses and secured digital insurance distribution providers to help create the Amazon Insurance Accelerator. Here are a few advantages of obtaining coverage through this network.

What does product liability insurance cover?*

Did you know that common, everyday household items can result in claims? That's why it's important for small businesses selling products on Amazon's marketplace to be adequately insured. Product liability insurance could help with the following expenses:

Property Damage: If a product you sell causes property damage, such as to a home or vehicle, product liability insurance could help pay to repair or replace the damaged property.

Medical Expenses: If a product you sell causes harm or illness to an individual, product liability insurance could help cover the cost of medical expenses incurred, including treatments, hospital stays, rehabilitation, and other related healthcare expenses.

Legal Fees: Product liability insurance could help cover costs associated with legal defense related to an injury or property damage claim, including attorney fees, court expenses, and potential settlement or judgment amounts from a lawsuit initiated by a customer.
