Initiating Coverage

You'll have access to dedicated insurance advisors who understand the ins and outs of your business and are ready to assist with your insurance needs.

If your business has an upcoming launch date as a new DSP, or you have an existing policy with the program, Marsh will contact you to start your application. If you are an existing DSP with coverage elsewhere, and you’d like to obtain a quote,  start your application today.

Marsh also has dedicated insurance advisors ready to answer your questions – and assist with obtaining a quote. Our goal is to make it easy for you to start the process, when you’re ready!

The Program is available to all DSPs operating locations nationwide.

If you have coverage elsewhere, please have 5 years loss runs (or all years in business if fewer)

If you have any questions on how to receive loss runs from your current carrier, please call or email Marsh.

We will provide you a proposal within two business days of receipt of your fully completed application (subject to underwriting eligibility). We will contact you if more time or information is needed.

New DSPs: Marsh understands that when you first shop for insurance, your vehicles are typically just being ordered and you may not know detailed vehicle information – or how fast you will add additional vehicles. We have built a rating process that makes it super simple. Our quote will provide you with a Daily Composite Rate (DCR) by vehicle type. Typically, all your vehicles used at Amazon will either be classified as “light” or “medium.” We will provide you your rate (based on your station location) for each vehicle type and help you estimate what your initial insurance premium might look like.

Once your actual vehicles are delivered, we will receive those and any additional vehicles from Amazon automatically via the Amazon Fleet Portal– and we’ll classify them into “light” or “medium” and apply that daily rate to each actual vehicle. Your monthly premium will be calculated based on the actual vehicles reported to us from the Amazon Fleet Portal active for each day of the month. No reporting for you – and your premium adjusts automatically as your fleet changes!

Existing DSPs: Marsh has integrated with the Amazon Fleet Portal to automatically update your active vehicles. When you renew with Marsh, our quote will provide you with a Daily Composite Rate (DCR) by vehicle type. Typically, all your vehicles used at Amazon will either be classified as “light” or “medium.” Your daily composite rate will be based on the actual vehicles in your fleet, grouped into “light” or “medium.’ As you add vehicles throughout the policy period, Marsh will automatically receive those updates from the Amazon Fleet Portal and will apply your daily rate. You will be notified any time we add a new vehicle – be sure to let us know if that vehicle is insured elsewhere and should not be added to your policy.

Because Marsh automatically adds vehicles reported to us as “active” in the Amazon Fleet Portal, it is more important than ever that you keep your fleet current in the Amazon Fleet Portal– be sure to mark any vehicles that are no longer part of your fleet as “inactive” so Marsh is notified and you are no longer charged to cover those vehicles on your policy.

Below is an example of how Marsh will calculate additions to your fleet using the daily composite rate:

Let’s say you have 2 medium and 4 light vehicles being added to your fleet. When Marsh receives this vehicle change, our system will automatically determine the number of days remaining in your policy term and multiply each vehicle type count by the number of days and their corresponding DCR provided in our initial quote proposal.

  • Medium Vehicle Type: (2 autos x # of days x DCR) = the total addition of premium for the policy term
  • Light Vehicle Type: (4 autos x # of days x DCR) = the total addition of premium for the policy term

For example, your DCR is $9.37 for medium and $6.84 for light. You have 2 medium vehicles and 4 light vehicles to add. You have 62 days remaining in your policy term. Here is the calculation:

  • Medium Vehicle Type: (2 autos x 62 days x $9.37 DCR) = $1,161.88 total
  • Light Vehicle Type: (4 autos x 62 days x $6.84 DCR) = $1,696.32 total

For vehicle removals, the same calculation would apply. Once the Amazon Fleet Portal reflects the removal of the vehicle from your fleet, Marsh will automatically receive notice of the change and remove that vehicle from your policy and any future installments.

You can contact your dedicated insurance advisor by phone or email to confirm coverage details. Coverage should be accepted 2 to 3 weeks prior to your effective date to avoid grounding. If not already on file, Marsh will reach out to you to obtain your banking account information for billing.

Once coverage is bound, you will receive a 90-day binder along with your auto ID cards and any requested certificates of insurance. Keep this binder until Marsh sends your policy documents. Marsh will also forward proof of your coverage to Amazon compliance to avoid grounding.

Once coverage is bound and policy numbers assigned, Marsh will request our carrier to electronically submit the BMC91X on your behalf.

Please note, your status will not show as ‘active’ on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) site until the process is finalized on their end.

Until your Element Fleet is ready, you will need to rent vehicles. Rental companies will require a certificate of insurance (COI) as proof of coverage. To bind coverage for these rental vehicles, you must report these rental vehicles through the Amazon Fleet Portal so Marsh can automatically be notified of these additional vehicles. Marsh will then confirm with you the insurance premium changes.

Yes, the Program will cover your owned, leased, and rented vehicles. You must report these rental vehicles through the Amazon Fleet Portal so Marsh can automatically be notified of these additional vehicles. Marsh will then confirm with you the insurance premium changes.
