Eligibility

Are you cleared for takeoff?

To qualify for coverage, you must meet the following requirements:

 

Pilot eligibility

  • Your primary residence must be in Canada.
  • Pilots must hold the appropriate licence or permit for the aircraft they are operating.

 

Aircraft eligibility

  • Your aircraft must be privately registered in Canada and intended for recreational purposes, as well as personal business and pleasure.
  • Your aircraft must not exceed a maximum seating capacity of seven passengers, excluding the pilot.
  • Your aircraft’s hull value does not exceed CA$600,000.
  • Your aircraft has a permissible takeoff weight of no more than 2,721 kilograms (6,000 pounds).

 

Aircraft exclusions

In addition to meeting the requirements listed above, your aircraft must not fall into any of the following categories:

  • Turbine engine aircraft
  • Foreign registered aircraft
  • Very light jets (i.e., VLJs)
  • Airships
  • Balloons
  • Unmanned air vehicles
  • Hang gliders
  • Paragliders
  • Hovercraft
  • Commercially registered aircraft unless rented or borrowed for private business or pleasure purposes only
